What DARS AI does
DARS AI reads your DARS report, the official Ohio University degree audit, and answers questions about it in plain language. Upload the PDF and ask what a requirement means, what is still outstanding, or which courses would close a gap.
- Reads an uploaded DARS degree audit report in PDF form.
- Summarizes which requirements are satisfied and which are still open.
- Explains BRICKS general education requirements in plain language.
- Narrows the long list of courses a requirement will accept down to the ones actually scheduled for your term and campus. A single DARS requirement can list dozens of qualifying courses, and plenty of them are not offered next term, not offered next year, or no longer offered at all.
Signing in requires an Ohio University account. If you do not have one, the next section shows you how to do the same work yourself.

You can get most of the way there with any public AI tool plus the university course search. Here is how.
- Download your degree audit as a PDF from your student account.
- Open a public AI tool such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.
- Attach the PDF and paste the prompt below.
- Take that list to webapps.ohio.edu/classes/search and find out what is really being offered. Be ready for this to be the slow part. A requirement that lists thirty acceptable courses may have three of them scheduled, and a public AI tool has no way to tell you which three: the course search is a live application it cannot read. Search one subject at a time for your term and campus, then cross off everything the results do not show. Checking whole subjects is far quicker than checking courses one by one.
- Confirm anything that affects your record with your advisor.

I am an Ohio University student. Attached is my DARS report, which is my official degree audit. Please help me understand it. Work through these in order: 1. Tell me my major, my catalog year, and my expected graduation term, if the report states them. 2. Summarize which requirements are already satisfied, grouped by category. Keep this short. Do not quote the whole report back to me. 3. List every requirement that is still outstanding. For each one, give the exact wording the report uses, then explain in plain language what it is asking for. 4. For each outstanding requirement, name the specific course subjects and catalog numbers that would satisfy it, based only on what the report says. If the report names acceptable courses, list them. If it does not, say so rather than guessing. 5. Build me a search list grouped by subject code, not by requirement. For each subject, list the catalog numbers that would count and say which requirement each one satisfies. Group it this way because the course search makes me pick a subject and a term, so I want to check one subject at a time rather than look up courses one by one. 6. Flag any requirement where the report accepts only one or two courses. Those are the ones most likely to trap me if they are not scheduled, so I will check them first. 7. Tell me which requirements look most urgent, given how many terms I have left. Rules for you to follow: Work only from what is in the attached report. You cannot see Ohio University course offerings, so never tell me that a course is offered, never guess how often one runs, and never tell me when one is next scheduled. My report may list courses that have not run in years and courses that no longer exist, so treat everything you give me as candidates I still have to verify, not as a plan I can register from. If you are not sure whether something satisfies a requirement, say you are not sure and tell me what to ask my advisor. When you are done, I will look the courses up myself at https://webapps.ohio.edu/classes/search to see what is actually offered.
Before you do that, two warnings
This is not academic advising. Neither DARS AI nor any public AI tool replaces meeting with your Ohio University Faculty Advisor or Success Advisor. None of them can approve a substitution, grant an exception, or clear you for graduation, and all of them can be wrong or out of date. Confirm anything that affects your record with your advisor.
Think hard before you hand your DARS to anyone. Your degree audit is part of your education record and it identifies you. Uploading it to a public AI tool hands it to a third party that may keep it, may use it to train future models, and is covered by no agreement Ohio University holds. Remove your name and your student ID first, and do not upload it anywhere you would not be willing to post it in public.
